What's Your Style?

House style can be very personal, but it’s also the most public. Like your car, raincoat (at least in Portland) and shoes communicate a lot about your likes and values, your home style can do the same. On the other hand, you can have very little control over the style of the home you live in! If you aren’t buying to be on a specific street, or close to work, or in a very conforming town (hello Cannon Beach, see the Shingle Style below) you can have limited choices. But, if you had no limits, what style of house is your favorite? Which would you never want to live in?

I can talk myself into almost any style, as long as it is well built, well maintained, well designed, and fits into the setting where it’s located. An A-Frame in the forest is my top retreat home dream. A Shingle Victorian at the beach. A Mid Century Modern on a large lot in a gently hilly neighborhood. A Tudor in a wooded area. A Prairie, American Foursquare, or Portland Foursquare to be specific, any where, any time. Below are a few more details on some popular styles in the Portland area. Which style is your favorite?
